B. The content of Acts for the solicitation of donations committed against PB

According to evidence submitted, the content of Acts for the solicitation ofdonations committed against PB is described in the following.

1. The person, background and personality of PB

In 1993, at the time of the incident in dispute in this case, PB was 31 years old. PB married in March 1991. In April 1993,, she quit her job at a company where she had been working since she had graduated from high school, and became a housewife.

At this time, PB was distressed about her situation in that she could nothave children, that her relationship with her husband was not good due in part to the fact that she was a higher wage earner than he, and that she had lingering feelings of doubt over whether or not her decision to quit her job was correct. Also PB had a strong sense of guilt over the fact thatsince her childhood, she had been cold to her mother who suffered a disability of lower body paralysis.

PB is in reality a critical and logical person. Her personality is such that she would not easily believe stories of the invisible spiritual worlduntil she could be convinced thoroughly of such existence.

PB was divorced in February 1995.

2. Solicitation to the Culture center.

Around 24 June 1993, PB received a phone call from Ms. Nakai Kane, a woman who worked at the same company as PB and was hired by that company in the same year as PB. On the phone, Kanae invited PB to have her fortune told by saying "Why don't you have your fortune told?" Two days later on 26June, PB went with Kane to a shop called "Hojyu" (Jewel) located in an large apartment in Manaioka, Osaka City, Osaka precinct.

There, a woman who acted as a fortune teller said to PB such things as "Why don't you have your family tree examined" and "It is urgent." PB then promised to have her family tree examined the following day.

On the next day 27 June, a different fortune teller named Kawakata was present. PB was told by Kawakata such things as "You cannot bear children because your ancestors have had bitter feelings up until now," "It is you misfortune not to have children," "You have an ill fate for sexual relations," "Your family line has a once failed marriage in it," "The reason your eldest brother is not married is kept by your ancestors....So as to avoid the time when the first wife dies (meaning: the reason why youreldest brother is not married is that his first wife may die. In order to avoid this, your ancestors are delaying his marriage), "The reason why you cannot have children is because both your and your husband's families have entered into (a state or period of) 'family extinction'", "Your father's previous wife who was not legally registered as his spouse in marriage, hasbrought half of your mother's unhappiness. That is why your mother was halfparalysed."

Kanae who was also present at this time said to PB such things as "Don't give up. Don't give up", "I studied and received children" and "You must hurry - be quick." Kanae encouraged PB to resolve to study.

Consequently, PB followed the advice of the woman playing the role of thefortune teller and decided to commute to and study at the Higashi Osaka Culture Center.

3. Education at the culture center

A. On 28 June of that same year, PB was told by Kanae: "Please keep the fact that your are coming here a secret from your husband. Women understand the world here but men find it difficult to understand. Even ifI try to explain (why) now, I probably wouldn't be able to do so. The timewill come when I am able to talk about it. PB was forbidden to talk to anybody outside (about her connection with or activities at the culture center). On that same day, PB began commuting to the Higashi Osaka CultureCenter. Also on that same day, PB answered a questionnaire similar to the "Turtle Shell" questionnaire which included a section on personal money savings. The content of the study course - as recorded on Attachment 2- onaverage consisted of watching a video for one hour and then speaking with a co-ordinator for one hour. PB wrote down the contents of her study course in her notebook for each session. On the same day, PB paid 100,000 yen for her course tuition fee.

B. On 7 July, PB was given a study schedule which listed her course agenda from 7-29 July. In the column for the 29th of July session, no videos werescheduled but what was written was "'sensei' to nomi" (private meeting with the "teacher"). Around this time, 29 July was determined to be the day of liberation from the spiritual world for PB.
